Be the salt and light of the earth!

NIV Matthew 5:13 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

NIV Matthew 5:13 "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot." One of my favorite verses in Matthew but again it is a bit different to interpret the verse without knowing Jesus' metaphors. In short, salt can be used for seasoning, preservation and cleansing. In verse 14, Jesus also mentioned about light, light can be used to illuminate other things. Our mission for life on the Earth is to be a live example to others, guide and influence them to follow God by preaching God's gospel.

What happen if salt loses its saltiness? Well, it becomes a useless chemical- pure sodium chloride without any use in today's word. Same for light, we need to glorify God's name via our righteous actions. To order to be the salt and light, we need to commit to God and spread what we have learnt from Him to people around us and around the world!

Lord, thank you for sending Jesus to be our teacher and role model. Let us have the courage and ability to spread your message around the globe. May you bless all of us to be your salt and light on the Earth. Amen!
