NIV Matthew 19:21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
A young man came to Jesus and asked what good thing he must do to get eternal life. Jesus pointed him to turn to God and keep His commandments. The young man replied to Jesus that he kept all the commandments and asked what he still lacked. It was written in NIV Matthew 19:21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
The young man went away sadly after hearing Jesus' answer because he was rich. There is an illusion in our hearts that if we stick to God's commands and do not sin against Him, then we are perfect. But the true faith is to believe in God even though we do not see things happen. Will we store the treasure in heaven instead of earthly possessions that kept for ourselves?
Heavenly Father, thank you for reminding us that we are not perfect. And thank you for what we have right now as you give all the things we need in our lives unconditionally. Father, help us share what we have with others so that others can know about you through us. Amen!
